Cargo Information Management System (Package Software)

Before
  • Due to the need to process documents in different formats, cargo code verification was performed visually and management was done manually, leading to increased staff labor costs.
  • This situation persisted with a high risk of human error occurring.
After
  • Read documents in different formats using OCR recognition tools, convert them to a common format for output, and enable automatic integration with core systems
  • Eliminate human error, reduce operational costs, and achieve highly efficient workflows

Background and Challenges

In cargo management operations handling cargo waiting, carrying in/out at Container Freight Stations (CFS) for domestic and international shipments, it is essential to verify cargo information sent by each client company and accurately sort it to the corresponding destination. However, cargo information exists in a wide variety of formats depending on the client, making commonization and IT integration difficult. This situation has led to persistent concerns about rising costs for manual, visual management tasks and the risks associated with errors. Consequently, the field has been demanding solutions to improve operational efficiency and reduce errors.

Research, Proposal, and Design

We closely observed the actual cargo management operations to directly assess current workflows and challenges, then defined the requirements.
As a result:
●During Waiting, Collection, and Carrying in
Read cargo information using a multi-reader with OCR recognition and register it to the server. Output instructions in a common format. At the site, collect and deliver cargo by verifying barcodes instead of visual inspection.
●Durring Warehousing
Input data using the created app and register information on the server. Features include recording case marks via AI image recognition and photographing/sharing damage images. At CFS offices, instead of manual data entry, cargo information registered via the field app is linked to the core system using RPA, FTP, etc.
●Durring Carrying out
This system automatically extracts shipment instruction information entered into the core system and delivers it to field terminals.

We proposed, designed, and built a our unique cargo information management system as described above.

Post-Implementation Evaluation

Staff across multiple departments can now quickly share information through this system and conduct paperless operations, enabling reduced operational costs and highly efficient workflows. Field staff have praised the system for significantly reducing fatigue and pressure in tasks requiring precision.
